I just recently completed a whole new section on AFK with regards to days out in London. It's an ongoing project that I'll be running where I'll be curating unique experiences that people can take part in. Find out more by visiting here.
I’ve stopped buying large canvasses that are quite intimidating and got a few of these little postcard sized ones. I had a conversation with a friend recently where they were curious about what the world would possibly look like if they were standing on the moon. Roughly done using watercolours. I’d have liked to have added a few more layers on that black, but I’m used to coating on the acrylic. Decided to choose watercolours because I wanted the detail on the clouds to stand
Another quick little piece that I did recently. This was a bit of a learning curve for me as I realised pretty stupidly that I’ve been painting on the wrong kind of canvas with watercolours. It’s a board used primarily for acrylics, hence why the dots are always an issue when you’re looking for detail. In case you’re wondering what painting is about; it’s Excalibur from Arthurian legend, stuck inside a stone and in the middle of an old forest. Not quite as haunting as I wante
I’ve taken up a course on (almost) computer-free graphic design and illustration. It’s day 1 and we’re back to basics, learning about one of the fundamental principles of design – typography. It’s the art and technique of arranging type to make written language readable and beautiful. We start with lettering, a brief history of fonts, serifs/san serifs and positive and negative spaces. Here’s a funky video we watched during the lesson – In the age of digital media and macbook
I have a very vivid memory of when I was in primary school and for world book day, our school ran this competition that required kids to come dressed as a book character. I remember it was around that time when I really badly wanted to buy a FunFax filofax. It was one of those really popular organisers that everyone seem to have (apart from me). I wasn’t allowed one at the time (because I had already spent all of my pocket money on books!) In any case, the winner of this comp
So I went to watch the latest Star Wars film the day that it came out earlier this week. Had to make the conscious effort of booking tickets in advance as I’ve found that it’s near impossible avoiding spoilers online for films. Before I start this little review, I have a disclaimer. It’s that my views below will most definitely be done with rose-tinted glasses. I’m a Star Wars fan through and through, following the original films, a large number of the book and comic series,
I love meeting people when they’re in the early stages of building their brand. I met with someone over the weekend who are launching a family startup from their home. They wanted my feedback on their branding ideas, as well as their overall vision for the business. We spoke for a couple of hours and I made a note of the three crucial things that came up during the discussion. These are things that I’ve learned on my own start-up journey and I thought it might be a good idea
